Hinduism is a religion, or a way of life, found most notably in India and Nepal. With over one billion followers,Hinduism is the world’s third largest religion by population, and the majority religion in India, Nepal, Mauritius and Bali (Indonesia). Hinduism has been called the “oldest religion” in the world, with some practitioners and scholars refer to it as Sanātana Dharma, “the eternal law” or the “eternal way” beyond human origins. Scholars regard Hinduism as a fusion or synthesis of various Indian cultures and traditions, with diverse roots and no founder.
हिन्दू धर्म (संस्कृत: सनातन धर्म) विश्व का एक अति प्राचीन धर्म है। यह वेदों पर आधारित धर्म है, जो अपने अन्दर कई अलग-अलग उपासना पद्धतियाँ, मत, सम्प्रदाय और दर्शन समेटे हुए है। अनुयायियों की संख्या के आधार पर ये विश्व का तीसरा सबसे बड़ा धर्म है| हिन्दी में इस धर्म को सनातन धर्म अथवा वैदिक धर्म भी कहते हैं। इण्डोनेशिया में इस धर्म का औपचारिक नाम “हिन्दु आगम” है। हिन्दू केवल एक धर्म या सम्प्रदाय ही नही है अपितु जीवन जीने की एक पद्धति है ” हिंसायाम दूयते या सा हिन्दु अर्थात् जो अपने मन, वचन, कर्म से हिंसा को दूर रखे वह हिन्दू है और जो कर्म अपने हितों के लिए दूसरों को कष्ट दे वह हिंसा है।
